Cybersecurity and online data privacy have always been a concern among users since the advent of the Internet and the World Wide Web. Consumers have a complex relationship with their data.
On the user's part, there's a natural tendency to keep personal details and preferences private. Lessons were learned in the past year. Online Data Privacy definitely received a blow but only for the better we realized that data privacy is REAL.
Facebook got to know its limits and we(users) understood the fact that we are mere products in the hands of these tech giants. Google and Twitter were also summoned to the Capitol Hill with the cause of data privacy. However, the questions were aimed at some other area and proved the inefficiency of mere politicians in the case of protection of the details of the citizens of the world.
Right now, we as users need to take up the matter in our hands. We need to remember to control the information that is being sent out into the vast web of data along with the websites being visited by us. We must take care of our data until something appropriate is being done in relation to this impending issue. Data Privacy might not have improved as expected but users have now become aware, which indicates progress.
